The chance factory
From 1st December 2016 to 31st January 2017
A sale of original artists’ prints for the benefit of Synesthésie and the participating artists
An exhibition taking place in twenty different sites throughout Seine-Saint-Denis

With the participation of
Céline Ahond, Giulia Andreani, Eva Barto, Alain Bernardini, Alexandre Da Silva, Étienne de France, Stéphane Degoutin & Gwenola Wagon, Jean-Charles de Quillacq, François Durif, Mark Geffriaud, Dominique Gilliot, Lola Gonzàlez, Véronique Hubert, Dominique Mathieu, Marie Preston, Matthieu Saladin, Bettina Samson, Bachir Soussi-Chiadmi, Marie Voignier et Éléonore Weber.

The chance factory is a scattered exhibition in twenty cultural places in Seine-Saint-Denis and an innovative online sale of original artworks that intends to weave a web around the idea of chance. All funds raised from the sale will be equally shared among participating artists and Synesthésie. Synesthésie will be putting its entire share of the profits into financing a research residency for one artist in 2017-2018.

Twenty artists have each created two editions of twenty five signed and numbered prints, one A4, the other A2. This sale, imagined as a way to make the sale of limited editions of contemporary artists’ work available to a wide public at affordable prices, has also been conceived as an opportunity to question the artistic economy, the place of speculation, and more generally our choices and habits as buyers and collectors.

An online sale
The originality of The chance factory lies in a purchasing protocol at once playful and innovative, as it offers buyers two possibilities.

Take chance down
You choose the work you wishe to purchase, at the advertised price for the format: 180 euros for an A2 print, and 100 euros for an A4 print. The work is delivered to your home within ten days. You may also pick it up by appointment from Synesthésie.

Take your chances
You leave your choice up to chance and pays half price: 90 euros for an A2 print and 50 euros for an A4 print.
With this option, you see the work you have bought for the first time when it is delivered to you within ten days of one of seven lotteries, the drawing of which you can also choose to attend, in order to pick up your purchased work immediately. The lotteries will be held on:
- the 11th and 20th December at 6 p.m. as a part of the Foire des savoir-faire solidaires in the square in front of the Basilica of Saint-Denis—the chance to be sure of having one or more prints to put under the Christmas tree...
- each Tuesday in January, that is, the 3rd, 20th, 17th, 24th, and 31st January, at 3 p.m. at Synesthésie.

There will be a digital consultation point at the Foire des savoir-faire solidaires, in the square in front of the Basilica of Saint Denis, from Friday 9th December to Wednesday 21st December 2016 as well as in the art market Bonheur des Arts taking place in the Salle de la Légion d’Honneur de Saint Denis. The art market will be taking place from Sunday 11th December to Wednesday 21st December 2016.

An exhibition to be held in public space and in twenty different partner sites
Playing on the idea of the dissemination of the sale of multiple copies, the prints will be on view in both public space and in twenty partner sites, each site exhibiting one of the twenty pairs of prints. The exhibition thus offers an aleatory and fragmented visit of discovery throughout the area of Seine-Saint-Denis.

The diptychs are welcomed and exposed by
60 ADADA, le 6B, l’Académie Fratellini, la Bibliothèque Universitaire de Paris 8, le Centre d’Arts Plastiques d’Aubervilliers (CAPA), l’École des arts de l’Île Saint-Denis, l’Écran Cinéma, le Centre Culturel Communal de Pierrefitte, la librairie Folie d’Encre, Khiasma, La Galerie – centre d’art contemporain de Noisy le Sec, les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, la Maison Jaune, la Médiathèque Centre Ville Saint-Denis, la Médiathèque Don Quichotte, la Médiathèque Gulliver, la Médiathèque Elsa Triolet, le Musée d’Art et d’Histoire, la coopérative Pointcarré et Synesthésie.
